it'd been a long long time since in the ground she'd gone
sure we had our debts to pay and time lost to make up
but in her belly slept our only sign of some good luck

after I flew far away to bring back something green
plowed through two double doors, stopping for a drink
poison slid down my throat and went straight for my mind
for then I looked across the roomed, locked in Eliza's eyes

there is not one ounce of me that don't regret each step I took
when Johnny Walker led us up the stairs and to her room
a tussle in the hay that made my sweetheart die
a rainy night in a dirty bar where I saw Eliza's eyes

alcohol pumped in my brain and pushed me to the brink
placed a picture in my mind that I did not want to think
fire soared through my veins and made my soul go cold
a night trapped in Eliza's eyes, all it took to be alone
